Hi, it's possibile adjust the brightness of the device rather than on television? the same channel on kodi you see darker

    Agree with this observation.
Thought it was my tv but the U9 is noticeably darker than the x8h plus. Needed to increase tv brightness from 45 to 65. Changing brighness on video settings has no effect. For some reason the general settings don't have the brightness slider available.

I've noticed this as well. So dark I can't use the deep color feature. Just too dark.

Turn HDR off and try again?

There is actually more to this issue. I am not sure whether this is a Mediacodec (Surface) problem in the firmware or a Kodi problem specific to Amlogic.

The output black levels are incorrect, instead of it being 16-235 it is to 0-217 and this is what makes the picture dark. HDR setting has no effect. Also, this doesn't happen with "Movie Player". I guess, "Movie Player" is still using amcodec.

Also, this problem seems to be limited to 8-bit content at 1080p or 4K. The levels are OK for 10-bit 4K content.

8-bit content at 1080p, 2160p have incorrect levels.
10-bit content at 2160p with deep color mode off (8-bit) or on (10-bit) have correct levels.

Hi, unfortunately, even with the hdr off does not change anything. the problem is quite annoying because the video is much darker and it is also difficult to navigate the Android menu because the selection can not see well because of too intense black.

Hi, do you think is fixable with a firmware update? However, I have problems not only with kodi. black is also very strong in the Android menu

I noticed this right away with the first movie I watched on it (1080p - Kodi). It was definitely too dark and did not look good.

Same issue here, and in settings also.
It's hard to choose an option bacause we can't see the "selected bar".

I agree, the problem is not just about Kodi. In the menu you do not see the selection because of color too dark

    With the release of a new box, there are always some bugs that need fixed with a new firmware so now might be a good time to remind all members of the forum rules, and in particular this one;
    • Don't ask for releases dates! Firmwares or updates or bug fixes will be released only when ready. All posts asking for ETA will be deleted without comments.

I agree and, indeed, made the same point in a different sub-forum some time ago. Trouble is, if the Mods and Admins stuck to the rule we would probably end up with a lot of skinny threads!!!;)

We hope we can release this month and worst case early next month, since we have to include fixes for other reported issues, not only this issue, thanks!

While we wait for the new firmware to fix this issue I have found a work-around ...though, it only works until you reboot or turn of the device.

Simply play a 4K 10bit file and stop it again, then you should be able to see that the colors have changed in both GUI and whatever movie you play afterwards (I used Kodi to play the 4K file)

My Sony TV has 3 picture settings: vivid, standard and custom. They called this Picture Mode. While the brightness in the custom mode is 50%, I set the standard mode to 60%.

Now when I watch Kodi video with darker picture, I would choose standard mode with a click on my remote.
