Getting the software on the device is not the main problem *but* to get it working on the device.

As far as i know there is no Amlogic based player that supports Prime Instant Video yet.

OK, agreed, I did that too and now know what it is, but I just meant that for someone who is unfamiliar with Android, a step by step guide would be really helpful.

    Hey there,
I have the same probs with the X7. The system crashes immediately after selecting and starting a movie.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Same problem here (X8-H).
This error message gets logged before the crash:
"java.lang.illegalstateexception / the popup window has to be present to handle surface switching"
I don't know what this means. Hope that some dev could look into this.

how not work on amazon prime video app????

No one is forcing you to use the calculator, why do you have it on screen if you don't want it. And why would you pay for another product when its already installed on the X8

If I use my IPad where Instant Video works, and use the Airport with the X8 it crashes also.

A friend of mine had a Neo X7mini at stock 4.2.2 firmware. Instant Video did work.
Could someone confirm that it works also with firmware 4.4.2 KitKat on Neo X7(mini)?
If it don't, then it's not a Rockchip vs. AMLogic issue.
It's not clear to me yet if the problem resides in the Android system or the AMLogic API.

However, video quality from the app was not very good when i tried it on the X7mini.
Also, the app doesn't have any options to change scaling or aspect ratio, nor does it have any audio related settings.
So it would be useless for me anyways. Wouldn't rather buy a Fire-TV than the X8-H still ;-)

I did read on Freaktab that Amazon Instant Video works on the latest octacore SoC from Allxxxxxx. This would suggest that it is a problem unique to Amlogic.

I can't find any info about success with the app in KitKat. Do you have a link to the post?
Maybe it's a KitKat AND AMLogic issue.

@kaan Which firmware do you installed on your X7?

The member fredphoesh is the one who mentioned that Amazon Instant Video works on Drxxx AW8x box. Since it is a competing box, posting the link here will be considered as against forum rules.

    Hello @NetAndif ,
right now i am running the X7 Kitkat v2.0.0 Community Edition ROM. I did try a number of ROM's though. Both official and custom, but none of them seemed to work. However, just about a week ago amazon updated its amazon DE app (German version) via google Play. Once i installed the update, i went on and reinstalled the prime instant video app via amazon apps and tada... It actually works! But, and here comes the bad news, the quality is nowhere near the amazon Fire TV, the built in amazon instant video app of an LG smart TV or the Browser (on a Windows PC). The videos play in lowest quality, even though its HD material, and the UI is a pain in the butt. I really don't think that its a AMLogic, Rockchip or Allwinner problem. I tried the HardwareGuru 5.0 Malipatch/HLS/DRM for X7 ROM before and was able to get sound but no picture. I think it's just a DRM problem. Since it seems to work "fine" after the amazon DE update, it could have also been an amazon related issue. The bottom line is that it finally runs on an x7 but there are a lot of other problems with this device AND the next generation (X8), and minix is announcing/releasing one product after another (z64) without fixing the previous ones. On the other hand, progress is slow and there are still some problems, but at least it seems that we are movin' in the right direction...

    Hi kaan,
thanks for the very useful information and thoughts.
I have another question in mind. Do you know, which engine / codec the instant video player uses?
Somewhere else i've read, that with the launch of Android 4.4 KitKat, Google dropped any flash player support.

Regarding the DRM things, i'm also very sure that is another point why Amazon may not give any support for uncertified Android devices.
Their 'certification' may be a process of licensing agreements with Google, Adobe or someone else.

About the X7 / X8: i see many people using them without any problems, some other people with minor issues and a few ones who could not even run the boxes successfully within their setup.
But this is the truth with many other similar devices out there. So i don't think Minix is doing a bad job, but rather they are one of the best suppliers in the market i've seen so far, because they give support for free. Hopefully they will continue their good work and get even better. This would be a benefit for all of us.

    Hi NetAndif,
i don`t know which player the instant video player app uses. My guess is that amazon is using its own AWS,S3 or CloudFront. If that is the case, than i am almost certain that amazon is using something like JW Player (HTML5). See here: http://docs.aws.amazon.com/AmazonCloudFront/latest/DeveloperGuide/TutorialStreamingJWPlayer.html

p.s. has anyone tried the new SkyGo D android app (german version)?

I got it to play by using Dolphin which has a native flash browser. If you change your settings within the amazon website, you can alter it the preference to load videos in flash instead of silverlight. Then open up the video within Dolphin and make sure you change the user agent to desktop and it will work. Having some issues however as the videos are crashing after a few minutes, but will try another browser.

edit: seems to be working great with dolphin now, just need to do a few things. Clicking the fullscreen button on the video player causes the flash plugin to crash after a few minutes. However... follow these steps to view in full screen.

    1. Within the dolphin extensions (top toolbar) enable Full Screen (auto hides the location bar) and desktop user agent
    2. Play the video and instead of clicking the Full Screen button on the bottom right of the player, click the "open in new window" button located directly next to it
    3. The video will open in a new tab and if you are in Dolphin Full Screen mode you will not see any toolbars and will be viewing just the video.
    4. Enable HD from the video player and you should be all set!!
