    Dear all,

There are lots of important changes plus a few new features coming on FW005.

We think it's better for us to release a beta firmware for testing before going to official,

    what do you guys think?

    Please comment, thanks.

    Regards,
    Team MINIX.

I am willing to participate in testing the beta.
In the General topic, I already asked a question about video 23,976. What do you think about the system video player to add more functions, including control using the remote control, such as scaling the video?

If it fixes the HD audio bug you have introduced in fw004 and 004a I am in,

Sounds good Ken. You think it will download with SD card in? Probably not huh.

Being a beta you will have to flash the box via usb. Also to upgrade to stable fw you will need to do a full flash again.
Well that's how it's worked in the past.

I would also be happy to participate, especially for the BT2020 issues I have.

I've never done a flash. What does that consist of. Do I download the update on a USB on my computer and then install on minix?

Flash wipes your os back to factory lose all settings apps you installed yourself
    as you had it new

Isn't this the same as an factory reset ?

If you mean that a factory reset also wipes your user data and user installed apps then yes that is true.
If you mean that a firmware flash is the same as a factory reset then no, they are two different things.

hmm..not sure that's entirely accurate.....depends on what sort of "flash" ...

a usb "firmware upgrade" using a USB drive or SD Card will keep data (and apps i think)
flashing using the usb flashing tool software will wipe data and apps

neither returns to the firmware as it was....unless you flash the same firmware again !

its not been stated how the 005 beta test firmware will be delivered but i very much doubt it will be OTA

I'm up for it , especially if it is USB driven.

It will be USB driven by connecting a USB cable to your Windows PC. ;)
But somehow I don't think you mean that!
