We have temporarily withdrawn 004 firmware from the server because we think the passthrough problem is annoying and shall release fw005 as soon as we can.

I tired this and the other clip. I am not sure whether the stuttering playback has anything to do with the profile level. Even though one of the clips is at level 6.1, video bitrate seems to be within level 5.1. I think it has to do with MediaCodec (Surface) rendering. If you play these clips in "MoviePlayer" on the U9-H, then they play fine. It is with Kodi 17.x (MediaCodec Surface) that you get stuttering.

Can you two check the clips with "MoviePlayer"?

Not tried yet with MoviePlayer, but all thoses movies are 100% smooth with U1+XMBC 16.3 with all codecs activated, including MediaCodec Surface...

    @WeK05 @skynet
seemed to play much better on U9's Movie Player, MX Player and ES File Explorer's media player

I couldn't get the U9 to switch framerate though at either of the HDMI self adaptive levels...played at my TV's rate of 60fps

    Hi Fred,

So you'll have stuttering because you can't play 100% smoothly a 23,976 FPS video @60 fps

    yes, minor stuttering

Disable amcodec acceleration in XBMC 16.3 and see what happens.

All those players use amcodec acceleration. I can't remember now, but I think it did switch refresh rate when I played the clips in "MoviePlayer" with HDMI self-adaption set to level 2.

So by my reckoning there is a bug in the U9 at firmware 003 in that HDMI self adaption does not function

(if using refresh rate switching in Kodi 17.1 enabled the TV does change to 24fps for video files at 23.976)

    it didn't for me with the u9 at either level 1 0r 2 :(

Try rebooting the U9 with the TV still turned on. I have noticed that refresh rate switching doesn't work sometimes, but a reboot fixes it.

Do you mean Minix's HDMI self adapation levels or Kodi's refresh rate switching, as Kodi's works OK for me. ?

and when you say reboot do you mean restart or power off and power on ?

EDIT : Restarted and rebooted...neither made HDMI self adaption function(n)

There are bugs related to Mediacodec that Kodi won't fix until v18...

Yes agreed 100% - However I'm not even sure even Android Kodi v18 will fix everything without AMLogic input and improvements as well.

MX Player, Movie player, U1 & XMBC 16.3 all use the old AMLcodec decoder and work properly.

As @WeK05 said disable Amcodec in XMBC 16.3 and observe video playback results with Mediacodec only.

You cannot compare Amcodec in XMBC 16.3 (Jarvis) to Mediacodec only in Kodi v17 Krypton. It's like comparing Apple to Oranges so far as Android AMLogic video playback support is concerned.

HINT: Attach a Keyboard and press the "O" key to pullup the Codec info window. You can see exactly what decoder is used then with Kodi.

What does AML LibreELEC Kodi use exclusively ? - Amcodec.

    Yes !
@MINIX - Ken : A good thing will be a corrected XMBC 16.3 version, without black bands on 4K movies. Is it possible ?

That's what we have been working on for the v17 version.
