    I haven't got a clue!

I found a 4:3 TV show and it stretched to 16:9 and I found a Movie that is 16:9 with the bars top and bottom and it stretched to lose the bars.

Why anyone would want to view media like this is beyond me anyway! o_O

Actually, stretching to 16:9 doesn't work for me at all. The movie I was playing in the recorded clip (https://streamable.com/zf0tv) has a resolution of 1920*800.

    I found a 1920x800 and stretch works.

I think all the posts relating to this issue need to be moved from the bugtracker thread!

I'm not accusing you of anything. I'm just frustrated it doesn't work for me and yet it appears to work for you. Please don't get me wrong. I'm not insinuating anything

Please do me this favour and try this sample on your U9. This is the same video I tried playing in the video clip I recorded. Play it on Kodi 17.3 or 17.4 and do 16:9 stretching. This video has a resolution of 1920*800; so if stretching works, it should eliminate the black borders.

@Villa 's screenshot shows software decoding (ff-h264 (SW)).

Let him confirm it. I tried it on mine and, obviously, playing any high bitrate or HEVC videos resulted in a very jittery/stuttering video.

Although I don't plan to use the Stretch 16:9 function, I gave it a try and it did not work for me either. I tested it on a 1920x800 movie(Lincoln - to be more specific), using Kodi 17.4 with mediacodec enabled.

Exactly. And if you asked the Kodi devs to "fix" this so called stretching bug they would tell you to go away because it is working as intended.

Removing top and bottom - black borders was not the intended function of Kodi Stretch 16:9 function at all.
To do that you should be using Kodi's On Screen Display > Video settings > Zoom function.

If you were playing around with 1080p 3D and stretching on AMLogic platforms, well forget about it. That is unsupported as well.

Both of these are NOT stretching 16:9 bugs.

How is it working as intended when it produces one result on Windows (intel) and anther result on Android (AMLogic) ?

I have it fascinating that some of you so-called video connoisseurs want to enforce your viewing standards on us. No one should be telling me "the proper way" to consume content. Since I've been coming to this forum, all my grievances have been trivialized, even when they are valid. And to say I specifically chose the Minix brand over other much cheaper alternatives to avoid these issues is an irony in itself.

It is not a Kodi bug, it is a Amlogic Mediacodec (Surface) issue which is at least partly fixed in the Nougat builds. In Nougat builds, stretch 16:9 does work for 1920x800/1920x816 videos.
The way I have understood stretch 16:9 in Kodi is, it will vertically stretch the video to fit 16:9 frame (1920x1080). I have no idea what the original intent of this function was.

It is not that stretch 16:9 doesn't work, custom stretch by modifying pixel ratio and minimize black bars also do not work with Amlogic Mediacodec (Surface).

(For this discussion, we are putting aside the question whether one should watch a movie in this stretched mode or not :)).

I didn't say whether it did or not on mine..i was just offering some suggestions to look at that may have been overlooked....

ok, so i tried on both my U1 and U9-H with a HEVC 10bit h265 encoded file SAR 2.4 (1920 x 800) on identical kodi 17.4 setups h/w accelerations enabled

The U1 stretched the video out to full screen on Stretch 16:9
The U9-H didn't stretch out to full screen on Stretch 16:9 ( it may have just nudged it out a little, difficult to tell)

I made a video with one problem https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B81HL5IMEUUONGlPTlhrbDB6VHM/view?usp=sharing
To repeat this, you need to do the following:
    1. Download the file: (1) The World in HDR (VP9) from here http://kodi.wiki/view/Samples
    or from here https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B81HL5IMEUUOc0N1bndIa0JwOUU/view?usp=sharing
    2. Download the file: (2) Kong.Skull.Island (H.264) from here https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B81HL5IMEUUOODY1SUJYSm9tQ3c/view?usp=sharing
    3. Open the file (1) with Movie Player and play for 20-30 seconds
    4. Open the file (2) with Movie Player.
At me after such actions, a file (2) is reproduced in green color. (If everything is ok, repeat steps 3-4)
And after that, if you open any video in any player (MX Player, MoviePlayer, Kodi), they are played in green.

for me there is always the small cut at the sound levels. I formatted, changed hdmi cable always the same problem of cut of sounds. Nothing to do it seems that these would come from amalog ,I hope this will be corrected in the next update

his problem is related to some videos with self-edited resolution info.

That was the second issue. The first issue was stretching any video to 16:9 doesn't work. That's what we were discussing.
