I did it again! For the second time, I've mistakenly applied 12 volts and fried my second X7 box, just in the same way as I have done with my first. What amazes me is how would something with so much good thought put into it not have a simple overvoltage protection circuit! Is it intentional?

Why would you do that?:mad::cry:
Newer devices, the U1 and the U9-H, do have over-voltage protection. Even so I wouldn't go attaching the wrong PSU just to see a red LED indicating over-voltage!

Unintentional. I used the X7 in my car with 9.1" 1280x480 display which is powered by 12 volts and has the same power jack as X7.

In this day and age with all the different adapter, cords etc, I picked up a cheap small label maker and I try to label things for this very reason. It is also good for when you are trouble shooting and tracing cords in behind TV's :)

Thanks midnight. I went ahead with Villa's advice and ordered me a U9-H.

Still be careful with which PSU you plug in though! ;):)
