Am I correct in that there is a problem with drivers for Windows 8.1, but it is the config.ini RKFlashTool file which is at fault?!

Users can download the set of tools that contains a downgrade config.ini already modified
    http://www.minixforum.com/downloads/download.php?file=Rockchip-Downgrade_tools.rar

I do not have Windows 8.1 so I'm afraid that I can not prove any of this.

    special cable
If you have the cable that came with the device, use it! (Y)

The cable supplied with the device is not actually that special! (It has a bit 'longer than the standard micro USB connector). Any other "" data cable can be used, Micro USB (long or short connector) to USB A
Personally, I never had a problem with a shorter connector.
One must understand that a charging cable (which will most likely look identical to a data cable) does not work!

The easiest option, however, if you have the cable supplied with the device, use it! (Y) [/ quote]

Hi. I tried to update my Mini X7 too, but it did not change anything. I'm running under Win10. The minix is recognized by the computer with an error message in the Reset mode ("[...] is not recognized" or something similar). I tried first launching the DriverInstall.exe file from the Release Driver Assistant. It said ok, and when I rebooted the Minix, nothing had changed. Then I tried forcing Windows to install the driver somehow ("update the driver" option in the properties) and I selected the Driver/X86/Win8 folder. I ran well, but again, no change on the Minix once rebooted. I also tried to use the fix.reg file explained in a previous post. Well, I am totally lost! What should I do? I used the Minix USB cable, and turned on the Minix while USB was plugged and the Reset button pressed.
    Thanks in advance!

Have you used the correct firmware? Flashing the X7 firmware to the X7 Mini or flashingthe X7 Mini firmware to the X7 will cause problems

Thanks for reply, pls consider making a tool for mac users.. lots of people use mac nowadays.
Btw i remember in the past we could flash firmware via usb stick, not available anymore?

    I agree! :)
I guess the SOC manufacturers (Rockchip, Amlogic) don't? :(
You must flash a full system image to upgrade from Jelly Bean to KitKat!

Has anyone figure out how to flash a Neo x5 Mini that is having issues downloading the driver for Win 8.1 64 bit? My minix doesn't go further than the splash screen and I've read through many posts, but they are pretty difficult to understand if you aren't very tech savvy. Please help!

Referring back to page 1 - Will the REG FIX for win 10 work in 32bit Windows 10 or 64 bit windows 10 ?
I have 32 bit windows 10 and even tho I've done theregistry fix as suggested , I still cannot get the device recognised.
    Thanks .
PS My problem is that the box hangs on 'MINIX' blue outlined - but will not progress beyond. Must be a firmware corruption.

Found a solution to installing drivers in Windows 10 32bit at:

    {Ca't put link ) :(

    QUOTE:
    Download and extract RK_DriverAssitant.zip
[Update: More recent versions of the tools can be found @ LINK REMOVED.
Double click on DriverInstall.exe in Release_DriverAssitant directory to start the utility

If you’ve already tried to install USB drivers for Rockchip devices, make sure to click “Uninstall Driver” first
    RK_Driver_Assistant_Install_Uninstall

Then click “Install Driver”, and depending on your version of Windows the Security below may show up twice during installation. Just click “Install”
    END QUOTE

The important bit was to UNINSTALL first !!!

    Drivers installed :)

I then ran the Rockchip App -RKBatchTool.exe - to Restore my firmware, having downloaded/unzipped x7-rk3188-240.img.

It seemed to run successfully, but still I have it stopping a 'Minix' pulsing blue outline. SIGH !

    This is my log file:
