MINIX introduces NEO X8-H Plus, our most powerful media hub for Android ever.
NEO X8-H Plus is an amazing device packed with innovative technologies, which truly unlock the full potential of Android OS on your TV.
Powered by Amlogic’s latest 4K chipset, Amlogic S812-H, NEO X8-H Plus delivers new levels of performance and connectivity. NEO X8-H Plus is the biggest advancement in MINIX’s history, combining the best hardware and firmware to offer an outstanding user experience.

NEO X8-H Plus delivers faster connectivity with next-generation Dual-Band Wi-Fi 802.11ac technology that is up to 6 times the Wi-Fi performance of previous MINIX models at data rates up to 433Mbps.
NEO X8-H Plus also comes fully equipped with Gigabit Ethernet providing the capability to stream any online content. This incredibly compact device truly is the perfect solution for even the most avid online streamer.

NEO X8-H Plus supports 4K H.265/HEVC Hardware Decoding. H.265/HEVC is the future video compression standard that provides double the compression ratio of its predessor, H.264. Delivering improved video streaming quality even for those users on a narrower bandwidth.

NEO X8-H Plus comes with Android 4.4.2 KitKat OS containing six months worth of improvements based upon previous NEO X8-H firmwares. This genuinely is MINIX’s most mature and advanced firmware yet.

I presume it is a typo. The specs show only DD,DD+ audio. No DTS?

One would think if the X8-H supports it then the Plus should as well

Sorry, I may offend some people by my comments, but...
It upsets me to think that I bought an X8-H 6 months ago (as a newly released Minix product).
Until now, it fails to function to 100%. Numerous issues which appear to be firmware/operating system/motherboard related.
Yet Minix release another new product BEFORE ensuring that their original Customers get what was promised.
    This is not right!
Sure, I have no issue with technological advances, but I feel that I have been left in the lurch now.

Please do not slag me off for making these comments. It is how I feel right now.

I appreciate that Minix are working on firmware corrections and adjustments, but surely these should take precedent over yet further new products. (Unless of course, Minix are planning to quietly abandon the original X8-H).

The MINIX X8, X8-H & X8-H Plus will all run the same firmware!!!
So if you think they will abandon the X8-H then you are thinking that they have abandoned the X8-H Plus before they've even released it.

I am currently testing what will be the next stable firmware. There is no ETA given but it will be released via OTA very soon!
What are your specific issues with the X8-H?

@GhOst. I don't think this is the right place to discuss the issues I am having. But, they are similar to many others on the forum. I am waiting (hoping) that they will be resolved soon.
No, I do not think they will abandon the latest plus product, but for sure they will concentrate on it, rather than the H. Also, I'll bet a beer that very soon Minix will be making comments such as "this enhancement will only work on the plus product".
I wish you good luck with the testing you and other beta testers are doing. All I want is a fully working, reliable X8-H product which doesn't crash, plays all things correctly, as was sold to me. Nothing else. If something (whatever it is) works on my 4 year old Android phone, then I would expect it to work on X8-H.

Feel free to PM me with any issues you are having. Just let me know what firmware you are using as well. Be as detailed as possible so I can provide the best support.
The thing is that they can't abandon the X8-H unless they abandon the Plus as well. They are based off the same code, so to update one you also update the other. Much the same as they havent abandoned the standard X8 because to do that means they have to also abandoned the X8-H.
I will take you up on that beer bet as long as the feature isnt hardware dependent.

I'm not going into details but with what @HardwareGuru and the dev team are doing but there are some very exciting times ahead NO device is abandoned!

I can't help but feel there are issues with the chip in the X8 and so releasing a new one with a different chip.

In future I will have to wait until there are minor issues reported on the forum regarding future products instead of jumping straight in like I did with the X8.

If you are having isssues then report them in the beta thread or in the X8 section so we can either help fix them or if it's a bug, resolve it through development.
I've owned every single NEO and the X8 is the first one Ive owned that has allowed me to finally remove my HTPC. As far as I'm concerned it's perfect.

I think the points raised above are valid. Minix have used customers to perfect a product which had/has faults, then before a final OTA has been pushed, bring out a newer product using the fixes learnt from, what you could call, guinea pigs.
I bought three X8-H boxes but had to send one back because of continuous crashing.

I have no axe to grind as I am very happy with my product but a lot of people havent been so lucky and that has to be respected.

I/We have no problems if people aren't happy, we want to help rectify that if possible. Having people unhappy and bad mouthing the product does not help MINIX in any way.
I dont see it as customers being used as "guinea pigs" or "beta testers" for this new model.
Yes there have been bugs (you get that with this kind of stuff), you can't expect MINIX to test every app in the store before releasing a product, even with a beta testing team things get missed.
There is a virtually unlimited number of combinations of hardware add ons, TVs, etc that are used with the X8. MINIX cant be expected to test on everything with everything on the market.
You also then have to understand that some bugs are not MINIXs fault but the fault of AMLogic and can only be fixed by them. So like the case with one of the first beta firmwares they were forced to wait a couple weeks for the new SDK to make a release worthwhile.
Then you get trolls who just like to troll or competing companies who come in to badmouth it so people will hopefully turn to their products (we have caught them out before)

It makes it hard when a lot of the feedback we get is "This box doesn't do as it was advertised, I hate it". We're left to try and work out what it doesn't do that is being talked about. Getting proper info like firmware version, app version etc is critical to rectifying a problem. Quite a lot of the time problems stem from user error and not that of the box/firmware being flawed
The firmware we are currently testing has 9 listed bugs fixed, not a single one ever effected me because I don't use my X8 for any of those things but they will make quite a few people happy.

The staff here (myself and @HardwareGuru included) are not paid by MINIX, we dont have shares in the company. @HardwareGuru pays to advertise his store here in the banner like every other reseller has to. We believe in the products so we bust our balls and sink countless hours into trying to help fellow customers get the same experience out of it that we do.
I've been here from the start of it all when myself, Mow & keepinitdroid set up the old forum over 2 yrs ago. I jumped on board because I saw a company that actually provided follow up support to their product rather than the countless others which just release a piece of hardware and expect the community (like freaktab) make the product usable.

    Dear all,

MINIX is still the best in Android Media Box. We as public, buyers, want still more and more. Lets focus on this.
If you have a MINIX NEO X8-H you have still one of the BEST models in your hands.

If you want to buy a MINIX you can now choose for the MINIX NEO X8-H PLUS.
with Gigabit Lan, 802.11ac WIFI and the H.265/HEVC Hardware Decoding.

So stop asking if MINIX is doing this on purpose!

We as buyers ask for all these things! Lets cellebrate the MINIX NEO X8-H PLUS:)

    Gents,

I agree with most of what you say as I am a big supporter of Minix products as that's all I have ever bought and recommended to friends.
The assistance users get from you guys and Minix are exceptional and very much appreciated. The Minix detractors are normally people who haven't a clue what they're doing and repeatedly ask questions that have already been answered.
However, I maintain that the original firmware wasn't up to the job and that has to be admitted.Users have had to use beta upgrades to get the box up to the advertised specifications.
I would add that the timing of the release is poor seeing as a workable OTA hasn't yet been released.

Hope I haven't offended, just my opinion.
    Regards fellas.

Yeah I feel a little shafted too.
    - Been patiently waiting a long time for an X8-H final firmware update, so I'm still on factory firmware. Tried beta 8, but it just kept crashing, so went back to stock.
    - The M1 remote that the X8-H came with is a pain in the ass which occasionally freezes and needs to be charged every second day.
    - The Minix GUI is sloppy. You click once on the XBMC link which brings up a tacky looking window with a small XBMC icon in it (with not even enough space to spell out the full name of the icon), so you have to click that icon to actually load it.

Then I find out that the 'H' features of the X8-H have no use or benefit within XBMC, so it was just wasted money.

If Minix were more polished with their GUI and remote control, I would be much more likely to consider buying a future box from them.

If you really cant wait for the final FW then update to the latest beta, it is far superior to any of the other firmwares.

I can get a good 4+ days out of my M1. I dont use it for games, I use it as a remote control for XBMC and thats about it.

The launcher, well this is Android, you have a vast selection of launchers to choose from. You can even boot straight into XBMC if you like and use that as a launcher.
If you like the MINIX style but want something a bit different, check this one out.

As for not realizing the H feature was more storage.... I cant help you there, reading would be a good start

Please dont think I am trying to hide anything or stop peoples opinions being voiced but I am closing this thread for the moment until either Ken or John make some kind of statement about this.
Myself & the other forum staff literally found out about this product at the same time as you guys.

I certainly understand some of you feel quite frustrated but I dont want this to turn into a witch hunt while I'm asleep.
So please wait for some official word from MINIX before posting negative comments

    Thanks for your understanding
