Netflix v5.0 question

    I saw that once too, restarting the box then playback works fine.
    Maybe he didn't try restarting.

    After logging into my Netflix account, then going to Netflix settings and changing my playback settings to "High (Best video quality, up to 3 GB per hour for HD and 7 GB per hour for Ultra HD)", I put on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D HD and I am watching at HD very high res. My Stereo and TV are both reporting 1080. This is with the Netflix app installed directly from the Play Store about 3 hours ago. I have subscribed to Netflix for a very long time and overlooked that setting. It makes a huge difference in video quality.
    I'm going to compare it to the patched version.

    I have the same version 5.0.5 from the play store. What does that version offer over the play store version?

    For info.....

    1) Impossible to get over 720x480p by just downloading the v5.x Netflix App from the Playstore - this has been discussed many times over already. I even Logcatted it in previous posts. It does not get much more definitive than that.

    You need a Netflix "Approved" box for 1920x1080p Netflix or "Massaged" Netflix_HD App with Widevine Level 1 DRM in Android Firmware for 1280x720p Netflix.

    2) TV & Stereo are reporting 1080p because that is the Android system resolution setting. If you set 4K2K60Hz the TV would report that as well. This has nothing to do with Netflix streaming resolutions. This is a common mistake among many users.

    Impossible? It's been said it's impossible to get the app from the play store. Some even report they don't see it. I see it, can install it and use all the features. You are welcome to stop by and see for yourself.
    Just because you say it is impossible, does not mean it is impossible, just impossible for you?
    Some owners of the U9 can't even get Youtube to work properly. They say the DirecTV app won't run. TV streaming, poor resolution, no 4k, Samba and the list goes on. Maybe they just went too far with installing all sorts of crap on their boxes or they just have them configured wrong. I'm sure my U9 box is the same as yours.
    I do not root the devices and I do not alter anything other than turn on developer's options and tweak, remove restricted bloatware, disable and/or delete unwanted apps, tweak Android settings and KODI configurations. I don't use modified or patched KODI. I set many of these boxes up on a daily basis amd every one of them work the same way.

    Regarding resolution, I know what I visually see on the screen. The visual resolution is at least 720p and it is not up-scaling. It's definitely better than 480.
    I called Netflix tech support and they told me, changing playback to "High (Best video quality, up to 3 GB per hour for HD and 7 GB per hour for Ultra HD)" will cause Netflix to send the higher Ultra HD to me. So I set up an alternate family account. I set one to high and one to auto. The resolution was way different on both, grainy on auto, fine on high. They also told me that if the bandwidth throughput is not fast enough for that setting, the video will throttle down to HD resolution and at worse stop playing in order to buffer. So I limited my speed to 10mbps and the resolution was back to low. I'm Fiber 100mpbps up and down, (Last Result: Download Speed: 95009 kbps (11876.1 KB/sec transfer rate), Upload Speed: 94586 kbps (11823.3 KB/sec transfer rate), Latency: 5 ms, Jitter: 0 ms, 5/19/2017, 9:46:50 AM). I have everything set to auto switch to native resolution of video or file. My stereo and TV constantly change video resolution, and my stereo constantly changes the audio settings, based on what ever the stream or video file is configured for.
    Could it be the provider you use? When I had Road Runner, there were too many restrictions. No mail forwarding, blocked sites and the list goes on. When I switched to FIOS, while they were still Verizon, and now Frontier, there are no restrictions.
    So you keep thinking impossible. And you can continue to doubt.(y)

    I will repeat again...greater than 480p resolution from the direct Playstore installed Netflix App is Improbable, Inconceivable, Incomprehensible and yes Impossible for everyone on devices without Netflix approval.
    I swear your U9 is made from ultra rare Unicorn Horns and Rocking Horse Poo - it seems to perform minor miracles on a daily basis as well ! :ROFLMAO:

    I've already installed the Playstore v5 Netflix as well and run it, that is not in dispute.

    Seriously I think I speak for a few people here - and I'm also saying this from a developer perspective....

    Unless you get cold hard facts and ADB Login (like MINIX Ken suggested), into the U9 and look at Android logcat results you have no clue what is going on with Netflix resolutions. Visually looking at Netflix onscreen only is not going to cut it in this thread period, you need facts - not speculation and guesswork.

    Ever heard of the "Example Short 23.976fps" Netflix test clip ?

    All that other stuff at the end you have posted is just a bunch off topic hot air, and that is me putting it very kindly. :censored:

    BTW: How do you expect to get UHD Netflix without both Netflix device approval and no HDCP 2.2 on any Android device ?

    How about this? You record a video (a phone recording should be fine) that shows:
    1) The "About" page of your U9-H.
    2) Uninstall the Netflix app that you have already installed on your U9-H.
    3) Go to the Play Store on U9-H and install Netflix app.
    4) Play one of the Netflix test patterns that shows the bitrate and streaming resolution.

    This will convince us (the doubters) and we will likely get off your back :ROFLMAO:

    You will have to add the test patterns to your playlist from a browser. They don't seem to show up when you search for it in the app. Since you are in the US you will have access to these patterns.

    Here is what I know, you can install the latest version of Netflix app from the Play Store if you are on FW003. It doesn't show up on FW004A or beta FW005. You can side load the original apk, but the resolution WILL BE LIMITED TO 480p. You can also side load the altered apk that will get you 720p resolution.

    I just uninstalled the app and re-installed it and showed you the screen.
    Tell you what. I'll do what you ask, after you do something for me. Because why would I want to waste my valuable time to prove something to you?
    I don't care if you believe me or not.o_O
    So here's what you do!
    You record a video, (a phone recording should be fine) that shows:
    1) Factory reset your U9, (if you know how, you can back up your box, so it will be easy for you to restore it)
    2) Remove all Netflix apps, if any are still installed
    3) Go to the Google official play store and search for Netflix. Show me you cannot see it on the list.
    4) If you do see it, show me you can't install it.
    5) If you can install it, install it
    6) run your suggested test patterns.

    This will convince me that your U9 is exactly like my U9. Then we can compare apples to apples:rolleyes:

    @MrBig: that screenshot means nothing to me. I can also provide you one just like that.

    Here is a screenshot of what I see in Play Store. Every single AOSP Android device (@MINIX - Ken's term) that I have show up as not compatible.

    I will provide you with the video that you have asked for (better than phone recording quality) this weekend. You do have to teach me how to factory reset the U9-H. This is my first Android device! (ignore what I said earlier).

    Don't bother with the video, the screen shot is enough proof.
    And you know what? That right there tells me something is not right with some of the boxes. Why can some U9 owners see it and install it from Google play store and others cannot?
    I can uninstall and reinstall Netflix 100 times, from the play store. The first time I was asked to reinstalled it, it was version 5.0.1. The last time I did it, it was version 5.0.5. I'll do some research here. We have some customers with older boxes. I cannot see why this would make a difference, unless something changed hardware wise in the more recent models. The one I have right now is less than 2 weeks old.
