    Dear all MINIX NGC-1 users,

We have released a BIOS update for NGC-1, BIOS version 1.3.

This update shall include the followings:

    1.) Rolled back to an older VBIOS to fix a bug (2 monitors are being shown when only 1 is connected);
    2.) Disabled the ESRT function to avoid wrong BIOS update is being flashed by Windows update service;

    Thanks & regards,
    Team MINIX.

Here is the video guide for this update:
(This guide applies for other BIOS versions as well)

Please note that all input peripherals & power button are being disabled during update to avoid human errors such as closing the application... hitting the power button by accident... etc...

Once update is complete, they will be reactivated immediately.

This BIOS update is very simple and shall take less than 2 minutes.

    Update procedures:
1.) Download the V1.3 BIOS zip package:
    http://www.minixforum.com/downloads/download.php?file=NGC-1_V1.3_BIOS.zip
2.) Extract this package to your Windows' local storage, e.g. Desktop
    3.) Run the "update.bat" by double-clicking it
4.) Choose "Yes" to proceed when Windows prompts for your administrative rights
5.) Patiently wait for the update to complete, DO NOT disconnect the power during the process or the BIOS will be corrupted and bricked!

Please feel free to ask any questions regarding this BIOS update here, thanks.

Let me also post the link to the latest firmware of the SSD drive:
    http://www.minixforum.com/downloads/download.php?file=UpgradeFW_S9FM02.9(DLMC).7z

Both stability and speed are improved with this V2.9 firmware.
Also, this firmware fixed the occasionally boot to UEFI shell issue.
We tested to reboot for >6,000 times to confirm the result.

Hi, I still had that boot issue going to shell> and having to type exit, after update of bios :) But all good apart from that.

    Hi Ken,

Is it possible to remove bios based malware if the bios update is applied?
Do you have information about this kind of information? My Minix server seemed to be hijacked, after upgraded hijacke, it is not useful. Do you have any suggestions ? What can I do?

    Hi Ken,

The re-flash should erase and write the new flash to the bios. That should purge any issues shouldn't it?

Maybe download the flash update again, put on a read-only device in safe mode and re flash.

Hijacks are not so common now, but exist & easily applied to older systems.

    Cheers,
    Warren.

    Hi Minix,
Can you explain how to update the SSD firmware?
The second issue I am having, is that the Windows 10 anniversary update crashes during the installation. I have tried it 3 times now with no success. The Ngc-1 just shuts down about half way through (always at random points) A restart forces reversal of the update. Is this heat related? I should mention I use Wifi and the online Windows update utility. Can you help?

For the SSD update just run the app...

    http://www.minixforum.com/downloads/download.php?file=UpgradeFW_S9FM02.9(DLMC).7z

If I remember correctly it should tell you which firmware version you already have so you can compare with the update.

    Hi Villa,
App won't run in Windows 10 after extraction. Windows says the program can't be executed in Windows.

    Hmmm, it's ok for me!

    Try Run as Administrator.

Did you see screenshot I added above?

    Hi Villa,
I'll try a different extractor then. THX
Can I expect an answer on the crashing during the Anniversary Update from an Admin?
    Cheers

I'm not sure how I would know the Anniversary Update has happened? All I can say is that yesterday my NGC-1 received a Windows update and all appears well presently!

Edit: Ok, I don't have version 1607, so I haven't received the Anniversary Update yet!

I just purchased am NGC-1 and windows tried updating to the Anniversary Edition. It didnt work, I get an error: EFI SHELL VERSION, CANNOT FIND REQUIRED MAP NAME

I cant do anything except type "exit" then Windows 10 is restored to an old version. However, the update keeps wanting to install. Will this BIOS update fix the issue? If not, how else can Minix provide support? I live in Canada.

How did you update? Using update assistant, or via Windows update?
    Have you fixed the problem?
We tried to update to the latest version, and it was successful.

I contacted Minix support by email and they walked me through a fix that included the BIOS update and changing the boot ordering so Windows boots first. All is good now. Thanks!
