The sad truth...

    The sad truth is that this Z83-4 is been a drammatic mess.
    Sound issues.
    SD card...don't make me talk about it. Pls. (for real)
    Windows updates transformed in a real, sad, diabolical, horrific nightmare.

    None of this issues are Minix fault, at least I think so, but, still those are real.
    Sound issues: After more than a year, just like happened with Z64W, the sound reproduction suddenly start crackling. Solved stopping and restarting the reproduction, but it presents often, it's really annoying. I think is a driver problem of some sort.
    SD card issue: The SD card reader doesn't work with his standard drivers, there are posts talking about this issue all over this forum.
    Windows updates issue: For an average user, installing the update 1709 or the new one, the 1803 is a living nightmare. Also Windows try to re-download e re-install those updates every single time the user turn the Z83-4 on, extremely annoying. There are posts talking about this issue all over this forum too.

    I almost forgot the clock issue, solved by the bios 1.6beta if i remeber well. This issue, and this one only, was solved by Minix. Thanks a lot.

    This is a story of a good product with a sad life.

    Please provide instructions how we can replicate this problem.

    General comment regarding Windows Updates on NEO Z83-4/NEO Z83-4 Pro...

    Due to the limited internal storage of MINIX NEO Z83-4 and NEO Z83-4 Pro it is important to manage the space carefully.
    We strongly recommend following the methods listed here to free up space on the C: drive:

    Also, we suggest erasing the old Windows 10 OS files from your PC [C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution] – this should save considerable space.
    Furthermore, disabling Hibernation mode will save approx. 4GB of space.
    Going forward, we recommend customers to use the C: drive exclusively for Windows 10 OS.
    Then use either an external HDD or micro SD card to expand the total storage size for saving other data and content.
    Both devices supports micro SD cards up to 256GB capacity, we tested using a Samsung EVO 256GB micro SD card.
    Software can be saved on a micro SD or external HDD by going to ‘System’ > ‘Storage’ > ‘Change where new content is saved’.

    Hi I replaced windows 10 with windows 8.1. I managed to install the drivers for windows 8.1. I'm 90% done except for two: the wireless and the SD storage. I tried every solution in all forum. I used all suggested drivers discussed. Could anybody help me please? I attached a screenshot from my current device manager status.

    I have to agree. John@MINIX, I'm sure that you have a perfectly working Z83-4 in a corner with miraculously the correct drivers etc. That does not mean that your customers have. They don't have the spare time or deep specialist knowledge to perform all of the obscure hacks needed to keep this platform afloat. If you are selling a product, you need to make sure that updates are delivered in a simple, robust and easy way so that the product is "fit for purpose" afterwards.

    My SD-card I/F still doesn't work after time-travelling back to Win #1607(?). Anyway a long way back.

    What I'd like to see
    a clear admission that these problems exists (e.g. SD card not working)
    a clear simple solution (download this file, execute this batch file).
    OR
    a product recall

    I support you with2Ls. The system drivers became buggy and not stable with windows 10 or older windows. I can't claim Microsoft responsible for that, since this is the manufacture's responsibility to either solve it with Microsoft or provide a clear simple solution on their forum to their buyer as the basic support to their buggy devices rather than depending on consumers to figure it out themselves. I'll spread the word of poor tech support on Amazon for future buyers.

    Attached is the driver for Micro SD card slot.

    Kindly follow the steps below to install the driver:

    First, disable Windows 10 Driver Signature Verification, so you can install the driver. Instructions found here:

    Then, open Device Manager.

    Right click on Intel SD Host Controller and click on Update Driver, choose browse my computer for driver software.

    Choose let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.

    Click on Have disk.

    Browse sdbus.inf (attached .zip file).

    Next and restart. The micro SD card slot should then work again.

    MINIX NEO Z83-4 and NEO Z83-4 Pro are only compatible with variations of Windows 10 OS.
    We do not have drivers available for older Windows versions, nor do we guarantee compatibility and support for older Windows versions.

    The advice provided is not obsure hacks, it's space saving tips.
    Whatever electronic device you purchase, regardless of whether it's Windows, Android, Mac, iOS etc... if it comes with limited internal storage you need to be aware of how to best manage the storage.

    I shall try this. (I'm not sure that an average PC user would be able to understand this, but I use Win10 PCs daily)
    The storage suggestions are quite reasonable for a budget 32GB machine, I accept.
    Fortunately, as I'm in the forum quite often, I saw this new information... I shall report back later.

    Well that failed completely. The instructions were quite vague and hand-wavy and resulted in no progress. What do you mean by "Browse" the .inf file. It's just loads of esoteric config stuff.

    Why can you not simply write down *each* step that is needed, not lump 10 steps into 1 magic step that works for you?

    It's not just for me. It's for all the other victims of this design flaw (which legally warrants a product recall is there's no fix that the average user can deploy)
    So no SD-card and no hope of exploiting putting everything on the SD-card to cope the the Z83-4s limitations, as you reasonably advise.
    Very Disappointed. :(

    Please can I ask you to do this? I am not a Windows 10 power user with a deep knowledge of device driver archaeology. Then you will have happy customer(s). And I think that you will enjoy your job more than having to fend off unhappy customers on this forum. Imagine me writing "Thank you very much. That fixed it. Cheers!" Isn't that nicer? :)

    Reinstalled windows twice as suggested. Windows thinks it has latest driver after other suggestion.
    Results: SD-card dead. A few hours wasted.
